Couples Contact Workshop

This workshop is specifically designed for couples who are interested in exploring and bringing new ways of communication and intimacy into their relationship.
This is an ideal setting in which to learn new methods and techniques of dance and movement in a playful way with other couples.

Do you sometimes find yourself falling into the same patterns, roles and dynamics
with your partner and your relationship?

We do. And we find that by placing our attention on listening to ourselves and our inner voice as well as to our partner’s movements, that we can see them and our relationship in a different light. We will create a safe space together in which we can re-learn how to listen, how to witness without judgement and how to let go of old patterns and forms. Letting go of old beliefs such as how it should be, how it should look and how the other person should behave, will shift our point of view
and allow us to be surprised. It enables us to reconnect with our spontaneous and creative selves and adds a new dimension of communication to our relationship.

Is dancing something you love to do but you prefer it without fixed steps and
choreography?

Contact Improvisation is a dance form which develops naturally between two or more dancers without any given steps or set figures. In this workshop we will explore the fundamentals of contact improvisation including rolling points of contact, playing with weight and gravity, falling and flying, investigating touch and non-verbal communication. Together with these tools we will awaken the dancer inside each of us. By bringing playfulness and curiosity into our moving, we can redefine our image of dance and discover new perspectives on what and how we can express through our bodies.

Can you imagine dancing freely, without any fear of being judged by others?
Authentic Movement allows us to focus on the subtle movements that originate from within us. In this safe space we can express and explore the inner impulses that move us, whether wild or calm, fast or slow. By observing our own sensations and impulses while watching someone else move, we learn more about ourselves. The safety and freedom of this form allows and encourages us to discover new ways of moving authentically.

Do you wish for more intentionless touch in your life?
Bodywork involves listening and using intuition to help release tension in the body of our partner. We work mainly with our hands, massaging and exploring the various layers of the physical structure. Softening the body, moving the skin, muscles and bones, we follow the wisdom of our inner healer.

The 3 elements of of our contact workshop – Contact Improvisation, Authentic Movement and Bodywork – have and continue to enrich our lives significantly. Through them we experience a deeper dimension of moving and being moved, seeing and being seen, listening and being heard. This authentic, truthful and
simple way of expression has helped us so often to understand and accept ourselves as well as those we come in contact with.

During the workshop, we will have time to explore our bodies and movement on our own, with partners and in groups. This will allow us to move from listening into contact and dance. The focus of our work will come from a place of curiosity, playfulness and ease.

Dance is the hidden language of the soul.
-Martha Graham

Our sessions will take place indoors as well as outdoors, in the beautiful natural forest of the surrounding area and the nearby beaches. There will also be optional yoga and meditation sessions offered in the mornings.

This workshop is open to all levels (some previous experience of dance and movement practices is recommended). Teaching will be in English and German.

Katrin & Ben

Katrin

loves to be in movement, whether dancing in- or outdoors, standing on her head or being a mountain goat, dwelling through forests and rocky landscapes. As an anthropologist, holistic dance and yoga teacher, she follows her passion of studying and applying different ways of both verbal and nonverbal communication. Having practiced holistic movement forms like contact improvisation, yoga and authentic movement for many years, she is convinced and yet still astonished by the power and magic of transformation through simply opening paths to the inner self.

Ben

is at home in the mountains and finds creativity and inspiration in experiencing the ever changing landscapes and seasons. On a continual path to connect with people at a deeper level, he practices and teaches contact improvisation and works as a mentor, coaching people in self-reflection and self-realisation through insight. He is fascinated with and is endlessly exploring ways of being present, authentic and trusting in the here and now.
